Pinhole Photography Contest 2012

Those of us here at Lenox Laser want to have another Photography Contest in the early spring with a deadline by April 13th, 2012. We had one back in 2008 with a cash prize with $500, so stay tuned to see what this one's will be! We are still working out the details, and will post as soon as we can. Contact us if you are interested, have ideas, or any other questions- we'd be happy to speak with you!

Building my favorites- it does overlap with my Gallery, except that not all these are pinholes. But again, they take some photographic effect and apply it particularly well to create something truly unique and interesting

New Stuff- Flickr

As you can see, we are experimenting with Flickr as a way to showcase the pinhole photos people have taken with our pinholes. I've posted a few photographs from a couple years ago that the photographers shared with us. I realize I haven't put up all the correct information yet with them, the information is scattered around and I need to pull it all together.

There are a lot, and I mean, A LOT of photos on Flickr that are tagged Lenox Laser! So if you're interested in what others have done with our pinholes, just search Lenox Laser and you can see for yourself. Several of them are the DIY type when it comes to pinhole cameras too, so if you are into that, you should definitely check them out. I'll be adding more photos that we have over the next month, and working on interacting with those of you out there who use our pinholes. If you have any photos you want to share with us, please feel free! Add us on Flickr, and I'll look through your photos.

Check This Out- Fresnel Diffraction Applet

www.falstad.com/diffraction/

This link takes you to the site of one Paul Falstad to the applet for Fresnel Diffraction. If  you select single slit, double slit, etc.,  you can see a visualization of the different apertures and optical effects. Its really helpful for me to see and be able to manipulate the parameters. I thought it would be interesting and educational to those who are dedicated to the art of pinhole photography. I encourage checking out the other applets that he has on his website, too.

Featured Pinhole Photographer- Paul Prober

Back in 2003, Lenox Laser hosted a Pinhole Competition. The submitted pictures were all stunning- beautiful and ethereal compositions of ordinary objects seen through the magical eye of a pinhole. You can view the photographs in the Pinhole Gallery of our Lenox Laser Wiki Knowledge Base.

I would now like to go back and revisit the photographers that contributed. So the first Featured Pinhole Photographer is Paul Prober.

He submitted two photographs to the competition- "Leaving Station" and "Courthouse Back Arch." Here again are the two photos:

"Leaving Station" Paul Prober

"Courthouse Back Arch" Paul Prober

I personally love the trees seen through the train on "Leaving Station." And "Courthouse Back Arch" is haunting in its beauty.

Paul Prober owns his own website, www.huecandela.com where he makes and sells other pinhole photography products. He and Bill Wellman also wrote a paper "Optimum Pinhole Camera Design." You can find it on the website or read it directly here.

What do you think of these photographs? Does it inspire you to try pinhole photography? It certainly inspires me! Let us know in the comments what you think, and also if you would be interested in participating in another Pinhole Competition in the (near?) future.

And, as always, check out our website www.lenoxlaser.com to see our pinhole products and to request more information. Check back here at the blog soon for more pinhole photography stuff and featured photographers!
